The 2026 Buffalo Harvest: Traditional Harvest & Rematriation Gathering is a powerful, Indigenous-led community event centered on cultural restoration, food sovereignty, and land stewardship. Hosted by the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project, the gathering invites participants to take part in a traditional buffalo harvest that honors the spiritual and practical relationship between Indigenous communities and the buffalo. Throughout the day, attendees engage in hands-on harvesting, community food distribution efforts, and “Tipi Talks” featuring discussions on rematriation and Indigenous leadership. Bringing together intertribal and intergenerational participants, the event creates a meaningful space for cultural connection, healing, and the revival of ancestral practices on reclaimed land.
