The Spanish District La Junta de los Rios was inhabited by the Paleo Indians, Jumano Settlement of Tapacolmes, the site of a Spanish Mission, Apache Raids, Indian Pueblos, Cabeza de Vaca traveled through this region. El Povo, Spanish for "The Dust" was later changed to Vado Rojo then to Redford for red crossing.
