Paying Attention: Ty Keeling on Land, Cattle, and Responsibility

Ty Keeling’s work in cattle production is guided less by markets than by attentiveness—to grass, water, animals, and consequence. Raised in rural Texas, he approaches ranching as a long-term responsibility shaped by patience, honesty, and adaptation. His perspective reflects a life spent learning that land sets the terms, and good decisions reveal themselves slowly, over years rather than seasons.

The Texas Way

"The spirit of Texas is larger than the sky above it."

- J. Frank Dobie

A Cowboy from Floresville

Mason Mitchell Howard works with horses the way he learned to do most things—by spending time, paying attention, and letting experience shape the outcome. Based in Stockdale, Texas, his days are built around riding, training, and the steady work that keeps horses sound and useful. As Mason says, “I like to let my horses and my dogs do the talking for me.”
