Dusk to Dark Star Party & Nature Night
About This Event
Shield Ranch, the first Urban Night Sky Place in Texas certified by DarkSky International, is hosting the Dusk to Dark Star Party & Nature Night on Saturday, November 7, from 5 to 9 pm. Sunset is at 5:32 pm, so you'll arrive in daylight and stay through full dark.
Members of the Austin Astronomical Society will run the telescopes and help guests find constellations. You'll also learn how light pollution affects the night sky and nocturnal wildlife, and you can add your own observations to Globe at Night, a citizen science campaign that measures sky brightness.
Other activities through the evening:
- A UV-guided nature walk led by the Central Texas Mycological Society
- Constellation art and storytelling with artist Stephanie Chavez Noell
- A yaupon tea tasting from Cat Spring Yaupon
No food is provided, so bring a picnic. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for youth, and the event is recommended for ages 8 and up. It's a good fit for outdoor lovers, families, and anyone curious about the night sky.
Location: The campsite at Shield Ranch, 10417 Crumley Ranch Rd., Austin, TX 78738
