The Texas Animal Health Commission protects the state's animal industry from domestic, foreign, and emerging diseases.

The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) safeguards the animal industry by protecting it from and mitigating the effects of domestic, foreign, and emerging diseases. TAHC increases the marketability of Texas livestock commodities, promotes animal health and productivity, and protects human health from animal diseases. The agency prepares for and responds to emergency situations involving animals. TAHC provides animal health management and emergency management & response. TAHC works directly with producers and affiliated industry associations for various animal species, including swine, poultry, sheep, goats, equine, cattle, exotic livestock, and exotic fowl. TAHC has the authority to enforce regulations to prevent or control contagious or infectious diseases. TAHC also works to manage pests from becoming major livestock health hazards. TAHC is involved in planning for prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery in the event of foreign animal disease or pest incursions, or any disasters that may affect the health or well-being of Texas' animal populations.
