Jake E's Riding Round Up, located in Kaufman, TX, is a Christian-based non-profit equine-assisted services and healing center. Established in memory of Jana Ewing Syvrud's son, Jacob Eli, the center focuses on improving the lives of individuals with a need to find P.E.A.C.E. – People thru Equines & Christ Achieving Courage & Empowerment. Jake E's offers services to veterans and their dependents, at-risk youth, those struggling with substance abuse, and children and adults with special abilities. The center offers adaptive and therapeutic horsemanship/riding. Therapeutic riding is an equine-assisted activity contributing positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of individuals with special needs. Jake E's has Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors (CTRI) who hold their certifications through PATH International. Since 2011, Jake E’s Riding Round Up has been at the forefront in providing therapies that incorporates equines to various populations of adults and children with special needs in North East Texas. Building upon this rich history and foundation, Jake E’s has evolved and expanded its clinical services with a unique and specialized veterans program 'Horses and Heroes.' The purpose of this program is to help veterans who have suffered injuries, both physical and mental, to better their lives through building a relationship with the horse. Psychotherapy Incorporating Equines (Clinical Counseling) is a form of psychotherapy involving the client, therapist, PATH Certified Equine Specialist and an equine or equines. Equine-Assisted Learning in Education is an experiential learning approach. These sessions are meant to engage people of all ages in learning processes that focus on academic skills, character development, and the promotion of relevant life skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Equine-Assisted Learning in Personal Development assists individuals and groups to discover new ways to face life challenges and opportunities by developing skills in effective problem-solving, decision-making, critical and creative thinking, and communication. Equine-Assisted Learning in Organizations assists members of corporations, organizations, and other workgroups to build effective teams and leaders that enhance work dynamics and performance at multiple organizational levels.
