Camargo's Western Boots, located in Mercedes, Texas, has been crafting custom western boots since 1980. Henry Camargo opened the shop after working for Rios of Mercedes. Camargo's Western Boots is known for its assortment of unconventional designs on exotic leathers. The shop creates custom bullhide, black ostrich, custom elephant, and cayman alligator boots. Camargo learned from masters who learned from Zeferino Rios, the father of boot making in the Rio Grande Valley. Camargo is trying to teach other people how to make boots to keep this unique skill alive. The cowboy/western heritage runs strong in Texas. The outsized boots that dot the corner of intersections and roadways in Mercedes make statements of their own in saying the city is known as the home of quality boots.
