The complex is located along the San Antonio River and serves as a trailhead for the Mission Reach, connecting Spanish Colonial Missions. Originally part of farmland belonging to the Mission San Antonio de Valero, the area was settled by German immigrants in the 1860s. In 1985, the Blue Star Ice and Cold Storage complex was purchased, and in 1986, it was converted into a gallery, launching the Blue Star Contemporary Art Center and Contemporary Art Month. The complex includes apartments, restaurants, an arthouse cinema, smaller galleries, artist studios, and retail shops. Blue Star Brewing Company, San Antonioâ ms first brewpub, opened here in 1996. Blue Star Arts Complex was the cityâ ms first mixed-use development and a center for art in San Antonio.
