The Barnyard Sanctuary, a NJ 501(c)3 non-profit charity, focuses on rescuing and advocating for farm animals who have experienced displacement or abuse. The organization aims to provide these animals with a secure and loving environment while promoting a more compassionate outlook for humans, animals, and the planet. Founded in 2010 by Tamala Lester, the sanctuary emerged from her passion for working with animals and a recognized need to aid farm animals, who are often among the most mistreated. Since its inception, The Barnyard Sanctuary has saved over 3,000 farm animals. Currently, the sanctuary provides a home to approximately 700 animals. The organization works to rescue farm animals, educate the public on animal care and compassion, and advocate for the rights of these animals. They also conduct educational initiatives and offer resources detailing the conditions and ethical concerns surrounding farm animals. The sanctuary also seeks to create a habitat for bees, butterflies, and other endangered species, and will partner with local schools on plant-based food education programs for school children. They plan to build a vegan, organic hydroponic vertical greenhouse and provide the public with free vegan cooking lessons.
